Plitvice Lakes

The Plitvice Lakes National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site located in central Croatia. The park is renowned for its stunning natural beauty consisting of a series of sixteen interconnected lakes and waterfalls set in lush forested surroundings.

The lakes are famous for their striking turquoise colour caused by the interplay of sunlight and minerals in the water. There are a series of boardwalks and hiking trails of varying lengths that wind through the park’s pristine forest. One of the most popular routes is the “Big Waterfall” trail, a 3.5 mile loop around the park’s largest waterfall, Veliki Slap.

In Spring visitors can see the park’s abundant wildflowers, while in the fall the changing leaves create a colourful display. In winter, the lakes freeze over and offer a unique and peaceful experience.

Overall, the Plitvice Lakes National Park is a must see part of the tour for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Blue Caves

The Blue Cave is a natural wonder located in the Adriatic Sea off the coast of the island of Biŝevo, near Vis, a popular destination in Croatia. The cave gets its name from the brilliant blue light that fills its interior, caused by the reflection of sunlight off the cave’s white limestone walls.

To reach the Blue Cave, visitors can take a boat tour from the town of Komiža or Vis. Once at the cave, visitors can transfer to a smaller boat that takes them inside the cave’s narrow entrance where they are greeted with a magical and surreal atmosphere of blue light that illuminates the water and walls of the cave.

The Blue Cave is a unique and unforgettable experience that is well worth the visit.

Croatian Cuisine

Food does more than merely satisfy your hunger. The stories of people and places are revealed via food, which is closely linked to culture. For this reason, our women only tour has included a cookery class with a well-known Croatian Chef and it would not be the same without sampling some of the wines.

Croatia cuisine is diverse and influenced by its neighboring countries,  including Italy, Austria and Hungary.

A few delicious Croatian dishes to sample during your tour with The Adventurous Ewe.

  1. Peka-Peka – a traditional dish that consists of meat or fish and vegetables cooked in a covered dish over an open fire. The dish is prepared with potatoes, carrots, onions and bell peppers and often served with polenta.
  2. Octopus Salad – a popular seafood dish that consists of boiled octopus, potatoes, onions and parsley dressed in olive oil and lemon juice.
  3. Black Risotto – a dish made with squid ink, rice and seafood such as shrimp or squid. The dish has a unique flavour.
  4. Ḉevapi – a popular street food. It is a grilled dish of minced meat, typically made from beef or lamb, and served with flatbread, onions and sour cream often served with ajvar, a roasted red pepper and eggplant spread.
  5. Pag Cheese – a hard, salty cheese made from sheep’s milk on the island of Pag. Often served as an appetizer.
  6. Fritule – small, doughnut like pastries that are made with flour, eggs, sugar, raisins, brandy and dusted with powdered sugar.
