Along the way, we stop at Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best- preserved Roman ruins in North Africa. Here, ancient columns, grand arches, and intricate mosaics tell the story of a once-thriving Roman outpost. After time to explore and soak in
this extraordinary site, we continue on to Fes. As we arrive, you’ll feel the shift – this is a city steeped in history, tradition, and deep cultural heritage, a place where the past is not just preserved, but very much alive.

We explore its grand gates, peaceful squares, and impressive historical sites, including the monumental Bab Mansour – regarded as one of the most beautiful gates in North Africa.

From Meknes, we journey into Morocco’s quietly flourishing wine region, arriving at a local vineyard for a relaxed and memorable wine tasting experience, followed by a leisurely lunch.

It’s a beautiful contrast to the morning’s history – a chance to unwind, connect, and savour the moment.

We return to Fes late afternoon.

DAY 6

Into the Atlas mountains - from Fes to the edge of the Sahara (410 km)

Today we journey south, leaving the ancient soul of Fes behind as we travel deep into the ever-changing landscapes of Morocco.

Our first stop is Ifrane, often referred to as “Little Switzerland” for its alpine-style architecture, crisp mountain air, and surprising scenery. It’s a refreshing contrast to the medinas, offering a glimpse into yet another facet of this diverse country.

As we continue through the Middle Atlas Mountains, the scenery shifts to cedar forests and wide open plateaus. Keep an eye out for the native Barbary macaques, often seen among the trees along the way.

The journey continues south, with dramatic landscapes unfolding as we approach the desert. Rocky plains, distant mountains, and golden hues begin to signal our arrival at the edge of the Sahara.

By late afternoon, we reach Erfoud, a small desert town often referred to as the gateway to the Sahara.

Here, we settle in for the evening, taking time to relax and soak in the stillness of the desert surroundings. Dinner is enjoyed at our hotel, as we prepare for tomorrow’s unforgettable journey into the dunes.

DAY 7

Merzouga & the Sahara - Into the heart of the desert (45 km)

Today we set off on a 4×4 adventure across the vast desert terrain, the scenery shifts between sweeping rocky plains, and hidden pockets of life that thrive against all odds. Along the way, we lunch with a nomadic family, offering a rare and meaningful glimpse into a way of life shaped by resilience, simplicity, and deep connection to the land.

This is not just a visit, but a moment of cultural exchange – to listen, learn, and appreciate a rhythm of life far removed from our own.

As the day softens, we return to the dunes of Erg Chebbi, where the true magic begins.

In the late afternoon, we mount our camels and gently make our way across the silence of the desert wrapping around you as the sun begins its descent. The colours shift from gold to amber to deep rose – a breathtaking, ever-changing canvas.

Arriving at our luxury desert camp just as the sun dips below the horizon, you’ll feel the stillness and wonder of this extraordinary place. Then climb one of the large dunes to watch the sun go down. Tonight, under a canopy of stars, we gather for dinner, with the soft rhythm
of local music and the warmth of desert hospitality creating an unforgettable evening.

After breakfast, we depart Merzouga and begin our journey west, travelling through ever- changing landscapes that reveal the raw beauty of southern Morocco.

Our route takes us towards the dramatic cliffs of Todra Gorge, where towering rock walls rise steeply on either side, creating a natural corridor carved over centuries. There is time to wander through the gorge, feel the cool air beneath the cliffs, and take in the sheer scale of this striking landscape.

Midday, we stop at a local restaurant. As we continue our journey, the scenery shifts once more, lush palm groves and ancient kasbahs across the Dades Valley ending in Ouarzazate.

DAY 9

Ancient Kasbahs to Marrakech - A journey through time (210 km)

This morning, we depart Ouarzazate and travel a short distance to the iconic Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most striking Ksars.

Rising from the earth in shades of amber and clay, this ancient fortified village feels almost untouched by time. As we wander through its narrow passageways, past crumbling walls and sunbaked towers, you’ll recognise why it has been the backdrop for films and series such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Climbing to the top rewards us with sweeping views across the surrounding desert.

From here, we begin our scenic journey towards Marrakech, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass.

This winding route offers ever-changing vistas – dramatic peaks, terraced hillsides, traditional Berber villages, and valleys that unfold in layers of colour and texture.

By late afternoon, we descend into the vibrant energy of Marrakech – a city alive with colour, movement, and soul.

I honestly loved every moment of my ladies’ trip to Vietnam with The Adventurous Ewe. From the buzz and chaos of Saigon, to the laid‑back charm of Hoi An, and the vibrant energy of Hanoi, the itinerary felt incredibly well balanced and thoughtfully put together. Our tour leader Mandy was amazing – warm, organised, and genuinely passionate about what she does. The experiences were unforgettable: lantern making, a hands‑on cooking class, an epic Vespa food tour, rooftop cocktails, colourful market visits, pearl farm, cruise on Halong Bay and riding on the back of a Minsk through Hanoi’s back alleys. Every day brought something exciting and authentic, giving us a real glimpse into life in Vietnam. The combination of culture, the amazing food(egg coffee!!), adventure, and getting to share it all with such a great group of women made this trip truly special. An excellent tour from start to finish – I’d highly recommend it to any woman wanting to travel. I’m already looking forward to my next adventure!

Vietnam was a full on sensory travel experience in the company of Mandy, long standing friends and some new to create an unforgettable tour. Vietnam is a much bigger country than imagined and our trip was a combination of private coach and air travel, with an overnight luxury cruise on the iconic Hlong Bay. The food experiences were divine and interacting with friendly Vietnamese made our individual shopping excursions easy. Hoi An for silks and 24 hour dressmaking as well as beautiful coloured lanterns, needs more time to absorb! Saigon, our final City, calls me back with its dynamic light and energy!
