Women-Only Small Group Tours: Why It’s Never Just About the Destination…

Women-only small group tours for women over 50 are about more than just destinations – they are about connection, confidence, and shared experiences.
When women first discover my women-only tours, the questions are almost always the same:
Where do we go?
What will we see?
Where will we stay?
\\And of course – those things matter.
But after years of hosting these journeys, I can tell you:
What Women Really Remember About Travel.
It’s the laughter on a bus after a long day.
It’s cocktails with a view… and yes, another Aperol Spritz.
It’s the food – always the food.
Because in the end, it’s the moments in between that stay with you.
Morocco: Unexpected Moments That Make the trip
The Adventurous Ewe’s Morocco tour was filled with unexpected moments…
There was great hilarity as we climbed onto camels (some more gracefully than others). There was the stillness of the desert at night – a sky filled with more stars than you can imagine.
But often, it was the smallest moments that stayed with us.
Like being squeezed into a tiny kiosk while a local woman proudly served us the most delicious Moroccan soup. Plastic chairs borrowed from neighbours, all of us huddled together – and somehow, that was the best meal of the trip.
Or following a donkey carrying our overnight bags up a mountain to a small village lodge. Or a rooftop cooking class with a chef full of personality.
And always, the laughter. Especially when one lady said, “Use the photo – we all look like dorks anyway!”
“What an adventure… Morocco showcased its fine spices and vibrant colours in abundance. A MUST see.” Nancy, Pretoria

Walking in Tuscany: Food, Laughter and Connection
Walking in Tuscany with The Adventurous Ewe was about the food, the laughter and the pink farmhouse.
Our pink farmhouse, with a view we never tired of. Safa, the wire-haired terrier who joined us on our walks.
Our guide calling a “mountain” a “mooton” – and the laughter that followed.
We shared long lunches overlooking rolling hills, far from the crowds. Evenings by the fire, telling stories. A wine quiz night (hopeless, really – we just drink it!).
And gentle mornings on the deck, stretching and breathing in the fresh Tuscan air.
“I am sold on small group tours… Mandy has become a friend.” Liz, Argyll
Portugal: Travel Stories That Stay with You
On the Northern Portugal trip with The Adventurous Ewe, our guide shared his story.
Our guide João – the ultimate gentleman – who casually admitted to owning 40 pairs of shoes(we felt slightly better about ourselves!). At Santa Luzia Basilica, he shared how he saved for ten years to be married there – quite emotional.
There were seaside lunches of grilled sardines. Family-run restaurants filled with locals enjoying long Sunday meals.
And in Porto, evenings spent across the river in Gaia, watching the sun melt into the Douro with a glass of wine in hand.
“A perfect balance of activities and free time… I loved the small group.” Judy, Cape Town
Vietnam: From Strangers to Sisterhood
The tour to Vietnam with The Adventurous Ewe was filled with laughter. A Vespa food tour that turned into a night of laughter and discovery – from rooftop bars playing 1960s music to hidden alleyway eateries.
A Minsk motorbike adventure through Hanoi, led by young locals so passionate about sharing their city.
A quiet walk through rice fields to a village where we shared tea with a local family. A mountainside picnic with a Vietnamese braai.
Hoi An glowing at sunset, lanterns reflecting on the water. The Mekong Delta, where life moves gently with the river. The Cu Chi Tunnels – powerful, humbling, unforgettable.
And Ha Long Bay… where a gentle rowing excursion turned into unexpected comedy after a small “traffic incident” between boats and a very animated exchange between rowers!
“Magical and unforgettable… travelling with Mandy felt like travelling with a friend.” Margie, Gauteng
Slovenia: Why Small Groups Matter
On The Adventurous Ewe tour to Slovenia, the experiences were more meaningful because of the small group.
Walking through Vintgar Gorge alongside water so turquoise it hardly feels real. Sitting by Lake Bled with hot chocolate so rich it’s more dessert than drink. Stopping for a countryside lunch of homemade sausages – simple, comforting, made with love.
And then, the unexpected…
A peaceful walk suddenly turned into a race back for lunch after our booking time changed. Some walked. Others jumped into the van. We urged our driver to “drive like Michael Schumacher!” – but the walkers still won (just slightly out of breath!).
And of course, a milestone birthday celebrated in unforgettable style.
“Many sights took your breath away… lots of laughs, good food and wine.” Wiebke, Cape Town
What Really Happens on Women-Only Journeys
Across every of the small group tours that I host, something deeper unfolds.
Women arrive as strangers. They leave with shared stories, inside jokes, and lasting friendships.
They return home richer – not just in experiences, but in connection.
Because in the end…
It was never just about the destination.
