Vietnam Tour 2025

Capital of Vietnam: Hanoi

Our adventure began in the north in the vibrant capital, Hanoi. Known for its centuries-old architecture and rich culture, the city feels alive at every corner. To dive right into the local spirit, we hopped onto vintage Minsk motorbikes and stopped at a street restaurant for a delicious lunch. It was a thrilling and authentic way to experience Hanoi.

Riding pillion with experienced local drivers, we weaved through the Old Quarter’s narrow lanes, buzzed past French colonial buildings, and caught glimpses of daily life unfolding — street food vendors, flower sellers, and families gathered around tiny plastic stools enjoying steaming bowls of pho. There was a special magic in feeling the city’s pulse so directly, the hum of the motorbikes blending with the laughter and chatter all around us.

Nature and relaxation: Mai Chau

Leaving the city behind, we journeyed into the peaceful embrace of Mai Chau Valley, home to verdant rice paddies and villages. Nestled in this landscape was the stunning Avana Retreat, our home for a couple of days of blissful relaxation and exploration. It was a hidden gem with wooden bungalows perched on hillsides offered breathtaking views, and every detail of the resort felt designed to harmonize with nature. We had cocktails by the pool, treated ourselves to spa treatments and took a slow walk through rice fields to a nearby village. For those of us needing a reset, this was a haven of peace and reconnection.

Tranquil escape: Ha Long Bay

Next, we headed for the ethereal calm of Ha Long Bay. Boarding a luxury cruise for the night, we set sail across the emerald waters, marvelling at the thousands of limestone karsts and islets that rise dramatically from the sea. The buffet lunch and set menu for dinner were enjoyed by everyone.

We spent our time gliding between these ancient formations, exploring hidden caves, and fun kayaking into secluded lagoons. Sun set over the bay with a cocktail on deck, watching the sky streaked in soft pinks and golds, was a moment of pure stillness — a beautiful reminder of nature’s grandeur.

The Magic of Hoi An

Time to board a plane bound for the enchanting ancient town of Hoi An, located in central Vietnam. During our guided tour that day, we visited a centre where we were shown the ancient Vietnamese art of picture embroidery. Absolutely exquisite, just like a painting! It takes them 3 years to qualify. Unbelievable! Next we had to experience a 24hr tailor. We had fun choosing material and deciding what to have made. Evenings in Hoi An were pure magic. As the sun dipped, the town transformed into a twinkling dreamscape, with thousands of lanterns

reflecting on the water. Floating a lantern down the river while making a silent wish was a simple, yet profoundly moving moment for many of us.

The energy of Ho Chi Minh City

Our final city stop was Ho Chi Minh City — a place of boundless energy and fascinating contrasts.

The first thing we learnt was how to cross a street. You have no idea how busy it is with hundreds of vespas heading your way. Put out your hand (asking them to slow down) and walk slowly across the street. Truly daunting at first but eventually we got the hang of it.

To truly experience its pulse, we hopped aboard Vespas for a thrilling after-dark food tour. Whizzing through neon-lit streets and hidden alleyways, we sampled everything from sizzling seafood to melt-in-the-mouth banh xeo (Vietnamese pancakes). Our last stop, an underground nightclub, dancing and enjoying the music. This night on the Vespas was a true highlight — adventurous, delicious, and full of laughter. On our last night, we treated ourselves to cocktails on the rooftop of a hotel, which was a popular meeting place for the press corps during the war. It would have been quicker to go by vespa, but we dressed up a bit for the evening, so even though the hotel was 1.5km away, it took us 45mins to get there by taxi.

Cruising the Mekong River

We ended our adventure by slowing down once more, heading into the Mekong Delta. Here, life moves to the rhythm of the river. We cruised along waterways flanked by coconut palms and small villages, witnessing scenes of daily life that felt untouched by time stopping for lunch in a village. One of the dishes was the Elephant Ear fish which was beautifully presented. After lunch we boarded traditional sampan boats. It was the perfect final chapter to our story — connecting us deeply with Vietnam’s landscapes and people.

Reflections on an Unforgettable Journey

Our women only Vietnam tour with The Adventurous Ewe was more than a sightseeing trip — it was a tapestry of experiences, emotions, and friendships woven together through shared adventure. We rode through the city streets and countryside lanes, sailed past ancient karsts, feasted together, and laughed until our sides ached.

Vietnam captured our hearts with its warmth, beauty, and spirit.

Until the next adventure, Vietnam — cảm ơn bạn (thank you) for the memories.
